Go with the 3100. In my opinion because it seems as if it is a better camera, plus it features very good video options 1080p and autofocus video. however. keep in mind that because it is a consumer camera you CAN NOT focus with top Nikkor lenses. Plus it is new and the D5000 is not.

the 12mp doesn't really matter to me much because i never need to print larger than 11x17 inches( Im sure you can go bigger) I am naturally biased to Nikon (because I own two) Nikon is aimed more towards the pro hence better quality and everything of that sort. but MORE EXPENSIVE however canon is aimed to everyone. they offer great lenses and great video as well. If you are passionate about photography and you want to go further, go with Nikon. If you just want to take up another hobby and shoot some video/snapshots, go with Canon

No worry man I'm glad you like them. The camera I shot most of these with is a D5000 and the kit for that will cost about $700 or so including extra batteries and cards.

bei mehr licht macht sie deutlich bessere aufnahmen aber ich wollte nich warten^^
